Date: October 17, 2022
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Caribbean Coast (#4) and Jaguares (#3). Jaguares were defeated at home 79-88 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Caribbean Coast made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). Jorge Gonzalez contributed with 24 points and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Byron Wesley (196-1992, college: Gonzaga) replied with 36 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Romario Ponce (180-1995) added 10 points and 6 assists in the effort for Jaguares. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caribbean Coast (13-9) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position. Jaguares lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with eight games lost. Caribbean Coast are looking forward to face Leon (#7) in the next round. Jaguares will play against the league's leader Real Esteli (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
