Regular Season Round 13: Pastoras - Zulianas 75-59

There was no surprise in Barquisimeto where 5th ranked Zulianas (1-12) were defeated by second ranked Pastoras (11-5) 75-59 on Saturday. Pastoras dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Zulianas' 24 and made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Pastoras forced 21 Zulianas turnovers. The former international center Dayenlys Veliz (179-2000) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and Nicole Garcia (174-2001) chipped in 16 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Pastoras players scored in double figures. At the losing side Arelis Herrera (-1998) responded with 9 points and 10 rebounds and Evilmar Andrade scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pastoras keep a position of league leader, which they share with Cayenas. Zulianas lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourth place with 12 games lost.
