Regular Season Round 8: Fortaleza - Corinthians 77-81

Very expected game when 13th ranked Fortaleza (2-7) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Corinthians (6-3) 81-77. Corinthians had a 38-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. Fortaleza was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Maozinha Pereira (200-2000) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Corinthians' coach Leo Alves allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Point guard Matheusinho Brito (184-2000) replied with 28 points and 8 rebounds and American swingman Dexter McClanahan (193-1997, college: Nicholls St.) added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Fortaleza. Corinthians have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Minas. Fortaleza at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Rio Claro. Corinthians will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fortaleza will play on the road against Minas (#5) in Belo Horizonte and hopes to get back on the winning track.
