Regular Season Round 9: Platense - Gimnasia 81-89

Everything went according to plan in Florida where second ranked Gimnasia (10-2) won against 13th ranked Platense (3-5) 89-81 on Thursday. Cuban forward Joaquin Mensia (198-1997, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international Agustin Barreiro (205-1999) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American power forward DeMarco Owens (203-1996, college: Montevallo) with 22 points and point guard Victor Fernandez (180-1999) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Five Gimnasia and four Platense players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Gimnasia. They maintain second place with 10-2 record behind leader Instituto. Platense at the other side dropped to the fifteenth position with five games lost. Gimnasia will meet Riachuelo LR (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Platense will play against San Lorenzo and hope to secure a win.
