There was no surprise when 10th ranked Brasilia (6-10) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Corinthians (11-5) 101-88 on Thursday. Corinthians made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Corinthians outrebounded Brasilia 45-28 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) fired 23 points for the winners. The former international guard Caue Borges (187-1991) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Corinthians' coach Leo Alves used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Gemadinha Sacco (183-1997) produced 26 points and 6 assists and point guard Guilherme Lessa (178-1995) added 13 points and 11 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Corinthians moved-up to fourth place. Loser Brasilia keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Sao Jose. Corinthians will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brasilia will play against Fortaleza (#14) and hope to secure a win.
