Ninth-ranked UNIFACISA (7-9) made lots of trouble for sixth ranked Minas (11-5) in Belo Horizonte on Friday. Minas managed to secure only one-point victory 88-87. However their fans expected easier game. Minas shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Felipe Vezaro (192-1992, college: TAMIU) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners and American guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) chipped in 12 points and 11 assists. Five Minas players scored in double figures. The former international Antonio Ferreira (200-1994) responded with 36 points (!!!) and Panamanian-American point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-1989, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pro Sports) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Minas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pinheiros and Corinthians. Loser UNIFACISA keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Minas will meet at home Pinheiros (#6) in the next round. UNIFACISA will play against Brasilia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
