There was no surprise in Mar del Plata where 14th ranked Argentino (6-12) was defeated by ninth ranked Penarol (9-7) 92-82 on Thursday. Penarol made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Penarol outrebounded Argentino 42-25 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) fired 25 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Jose Defelippo (186-1997) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Point guard Jeremias Sandrini (185-1993) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 assists and Cuban power forward Marlon Diaz (200-1998, agency: Pro Sports) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Four Argentino players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Penarol moved-up to eighth place. Argentino lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Argentino will play against Platense (#7) and hope to secure a win.
