Not a big story in a game in Florida where 13th ranked Independ.O. (7-9) was defeated by seventh ranked Platense (12-7) 94-80 on Wednesday. Platense dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Independ.O.'s 30 and made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American power forward DeMarco Owens (203-1996, college: Montevallo) who scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. Uruguayan-Italian swingman Nicola Pomoli (195-1999) chipped in 21 points. Owens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was Venezuelan guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-1995) who recorded 17 points and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Salvador Giletto (195-1993) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Platense have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Independ.O. dropped to the fourteenth position with nine games lost. Platense will meet at home Penarol (#8) in the next round. Independ.O. will play against Boca (#10) in Buenos Aires and hope to secure a win.
