Very expected game when 13th ranked Pato (6-18) was smashed by sixth ranked Corinthians (14-9) in Sao Paulo 102-78 on Wednesday. Corinthians dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Pato's 36. They outrebounded Pato 38-26 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Corinthians looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The winners were led by American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) who scored that evening 23 points and center Maique Tavares (210-1993) supported him with 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Corinthians players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 5 assists by Jonatan Oliveira (188-1999) did not help to save the game for Pato. Colombian guard Romario Roque (180-1998) added 12 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Corinthians maintains sixth position with 14-9 record. Loser Pato dropped to the fourteenth place with 18 games lost. Corinthians will meet at home Fortaleza (#16) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pato will play against UNIFACISA and hope to secure a win.
