Regular Season Round 4: Culiacan - Hermosillo 72-88
Date: March 21, 2023
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when their biggest opponent Caballeros de Culiacan (6-2) was defeated at home by third ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (4-3) 88-72 on Tuesday. Rayos de Hermosillo made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Rayos de Hermosillo outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 47-33 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Rayos de Hermosillo made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jimond Ivey (196-1996, college: Akron) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Khalil Iverson (196-1997, college: Wisconsin) who added 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Teyvion Kirk (193-1999, college: UIC) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) scored 19 points and 4 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-3 record having just three points less than leader Astros. Loser Caballeros de Culiacan still keeps top place with two games lost. They share the position with Astros. Rayos de Hermosillo will meet Venados (#6) in the next round. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#4) and hope to secure a win.
