Regular Season Round 4: Obregon - Mazatlan 101-80

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Venados (3-5) were outplayed on the road by seventh ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (3-4) 101-80 on Wednesday. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Venados' 44. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Venados' players. The game was also dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Jimmy Whitt (190-1997, college: Arkansas, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (on 15-of-19 shooting from the field) and point guard Deshaun Cooper (173-1991, college: NW Missouri St.) who added 19 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side power forward Alex Kaye Williams (203-1993) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and center Vincent Boumann (206-1996, college: WOU) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Guaymas. Loser Venados dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Tijuana. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will meet Tijuana Zonkeys (#7) on the road in the next round. Venados will play against Rayos de Hermosillo and hope to secure a win.
