There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Las Animas (9-8) were defeated on the road by ninth ranked Castro (8-8) 60-56 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Ecuadorian center Bryan Carabali (212-1999) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Venezuelan Luis Merida (190) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks and Spanish Alejandro Vergara (196-1995) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Castro maintains ninth place with 8-8 record. Loser Las Animas dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Castro will meet at home higher ranked Espanol O. (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Las Animas will play against Ancud and hope to secure a win.
