Regular Season Round 5: Guaros - Centauros 73-68

Rather predictable result when first ranked Guaros (4-2) won against 5th ranked Centauros (2-3) in Barquisimeto 73-68 on Tuesday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Strangely Centauros outrebounded Guaros 44-26 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Guaros made 8 blocks. American guard Rodney Green (197-1988, college: La Salle) nailed 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-1982, agency: Pro Sports) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds. The former international forward Elder Gimenez (186-1991) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Spanish-Dominican power forward Jhonatan Araujo (206-1996) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Centauros in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Guaros have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-2 record, which they share with Broncos. Loser Centauros keep the fifth position with three games lost. Guaros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Centauros will play against the league's leader Brillantes (#1) and hope to secure a win.
