There was no surprise in Caracas where 8th ranked Taurinos (4-10) were defeated by sixth ranked Heroes (8-6) 97-83 on Wednesday. Heroes looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Heroes made 8 blocks. British center Kavell Bigby-Williams (211-1995, college: LSU) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and Dominican point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) chipped in 21 points, 8 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was Jean Payen (193-2003) with 22 points and 7 assists and American JD Weatherspoon (198-1992, college: Toledo) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Heroes moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gaiteros. Loser Taurinos dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Heroes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Taurinos will play against Gaiteros (#5) in Maracaibo and hope to secure a win.
