Regular Season Round 19: Gaiteros - Taurinos 89-95

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Taurinos (5-11) won against higher ranked Gaiteros (8-7) in Maracaibo 95-89 on Friday. Taurinos outrebounded Gaiteros 49-38 including 37 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for the former international power forward Adrian Espinoza (210-1997) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds. The former international guard Bryant Duran (180-1999) accounted for 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. American guard Matthew Butler (188-1995, college: UT Martin) came up with 24 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and British Robert Gilchrist (206-1990, college: FSU) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for Gaiteros in the defeat. Five Taurinos and four Gaiteros players scored in double figures. Gaiteros' coach Jorge Arrieta let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Taurinos maintains ninth place with 5-11 record. Gaiteros at the other side keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Heroes. Taurinos will meet league's second-placed Brillantes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaiteros will play against Heroes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
