No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Venados (15-13) beat 6th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (11-17) in Mazatlan 103-94 on Tuesday. Venados looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American players dominated also this game. Center Alonzo Stafford (200-1993, college: CCC) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Jeff Ledbetter (191-1988, college: Idaho, agency: Slash Sports) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Venados' coach James Penny used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 27 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists by power forward Anthony Smith (201-1997, college: Murray St.) did not help to save the game for Ostioneros de Guaymas. Guard Antwon Lillard (198-1995, college: BGSU) added 24 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Five Venados and four Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Venados moved-up to second place, which they share with Culiacan and Astros. Ostioneros de Guaymas lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 17 games lost. Venados will meet league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against the league's second-placed Astros (#2) and hope to secure a win.
