Very important is a road loss of third ranked Piratas (13-7) against fifth ranked Spartans (12-10) on Thursday night. Visiting Piratas were defeated by Spartans in Caracas 89-76. Spartans looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Branden Dawson (200-1993, college: Michigan St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import Craig Sword (190-1994, college: MSU) chipped in 23 points. Four Spartans players scored in double figures. Dominican Rigoberto Mendoza (190-1992) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Spartans maintains fifth place with 12-10 record. Loser Piratas keep the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Brillantes. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
