There was no surprise in Puerto La Cruz where 8th ranked Marinos (6-16) were defeated by first ranked Gladiadores (22-2) 87-74 on Sunday. The former international forward Anthony Perez (206-1993, college: Ole Miss) fired 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American swingman David Nickelberry (201-1998, college: Buffalo) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. Dominican Yeison Colome (190-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and swingman Emilio Cappare (199-1990) added 6 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for Gladiadores. They maintain first place with 22-2 record. Loser Marinos keep the eighth position with 16 games lost. Gladiadores will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Marinos will play against Diablos (#10) in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
