Regular Season Round 9: Rojas - Abejas 86-78

There was no surprise in Veracruz where 9th ranked Abejas (2-14) were defeated by sixth ranked Rojas (9-7) 86-78 on Monday. Rojas looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Deja Church (178-1998, college: DePaul) who scored 29 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Her fellow American import forward Stasha Carey (188-1995, college: Rutgers, agency: Shark Sports Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Dana Soto (167-1997) who recorded 29 points and 4 assists and American forward Zada Williams (188-1996, college: Florida) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Abejas' coach Carlos Gorosito rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rojas moved-up to fifth place. Abejas lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Correcaminos and Freseras. Rojas will meet Correcaminos (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Abejas will play against Fuerza Regia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
