Second Stage Round 1: Urunday - Lagomar 38-76
Date: July 9, 2023
Another exciting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Montevideo: Lagomar and Urunday. Urunday was crushed at home by 38 points 38-76 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Urunday. Lagomar held Urunday to an opponent 21.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Lagomar forced 26 Urunday turnovers and outrebounded them 50-37 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Urunday's players. Paraguayan forward Natalia Quevedo (170-1998) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) chipped in 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Rocio Mott (169-1992) produced 8 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Gabriela Piriz (158-1988) added 9 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lagomar will meet at home Remeros in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Urunday will play against Juventud and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
