Regular Season Round 16: Miramar - Sayago 66-96
Date: August 1, 2023
Very predictable result when fifth ranked Sayago (8-5) rolled over bottom-ranked Miramar (2-11) in Montevideo 96-66 on Tuesday. Sayago made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Sayago outrebounded Miramar 44-31 including a 39-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The winners were led by American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and point guard Santiago Calimares (180-2003) supported him with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Sayago players scored in double figures. Sayago's coach German Fernandez felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds by Argentinian power forward Gonzalo Torres (201-1994) did not help to save the game for Miramar. Facundo Villalba (190-2002) added 16 points for lost side. Sayago maintains fifth position with 8-5 record. Miramar lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. Sayago will meet at home Capitol (#6) in the next round. Miramar's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Welcome.
