Regular Season Round 7: Real Esteli - Caribbean Coast 96-95

Round in LSB means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Esteli where host Real Esteli (4-2) edged league's leader Caribbean Coast (4-1) 96-95 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Caribbean Coast. Real Esteli made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 Caribbean Coast turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Caribbean Coast helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American-Puerto Rican Christopher Gaston (201-1989, college: Fordham) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international swingman Jared Ruiz (188-1992) chipped in 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Real Esteli's coach David Rosario used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points, 31 rebounds and 7 assists and Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) added 29 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Real Esteli went down to third position due to points difference. Caribbean Coast at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Leon. Caribbean Coast will play next round against Tigres trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Real Esteli will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
