Uruguay
Second Stage Round 4: Urunday - Atenas 103-99
Date: August 29, 2023
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Urunday (#1) and Atenas (#8). Despite it looked like an easy game for Urunday, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest Atenas challenged much higher ranked Urunday giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by four points 103-99. Urunday made 27-of-34 charity shots (79.4 percent) during the game. Urunday outrebounded Atenas 49-37 including 36 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Atenas were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American Tyrone Lee (203-1990, college: GVSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import swingman Anthony Hilliard (195-1986, college: ECSU) who added 25 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Joaquin Rodriguez (199-2003) responded with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Felipe Silveira (187-2001) scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Urunday and five Atenas players scored in double figures. Urunday have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-3 record. Atenas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost. Urunday will play against Tabare (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Atenas' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Larranaga.
