Second Stage Round 4: Sayago - Olimpia 99-77
Date: August 29, 2023
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Olimpia (13-5) against fifth ranked Sayago (10-8) on Tuesday night. Visiting Olimpia was crushed by Sayago in Sayago 99-77. They outrebounded Olimpia 36-22 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sayago looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The winners were led by Argentinian forward Martin Chervo (200-1992) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) supported him with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Even 16 points and 4 assists by forward Juan Diego Cabillon (192-2000) did not help to save the game for Olimpia. American center Ricardo Glenn (203-1990, college: USC Upstate, agency: Interperformances) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Four Sayago and five Olimpia players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sayago maintains fifth position with 10-8 record, which they share with Welcome and Capitol. Loser Olimpia keeps the second place with five games lost. Sayago will meet Welcome (#6) in the next round. Olimpia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Capitol.
