Uruguay
Second Stage Round 5: U.Atletica - O.Mundial 100-73
Date: August 30, 2023
Not a big story in a game in Montevideo where 14th ranked O.Mundial (6-14) was rolled over by tenth ranked U.Atletica (11-9) 100-73 on Wednesday. U.Atletica shot 60.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. U.Atletica looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Miles Bowman Jr (198-1993, college: High Point) who scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Point guard Felipe Garcia (173-1999) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four U.Atletica players scored in double figures. Guard Thomas Araujo (192-2004) produced 24 points and 4 steals and Brazilian center Pedro Ianguas (210-1998) added 8 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. U.Atletica have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. O.Mundial lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Verdirrojo and Lagomar. U.Atletica will meet Colon (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. O.Mundial's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Miramar.
