Mineros used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Mexicali 75-70 on Thursday night. Mineros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Chris Perry (203-1994, college: LMU) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Franklin Hassell (203-1988, college: ODU) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Mineros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (201-1990, college: Murray St., agency: 011 Sports) who recorded 19 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American point guard Eric Garcia (183-1994, college: Wofford) added 12 points and 9 assists respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Mineros will meet Plateros (#6) in the next round. Soles will play against Fuerza Regia and hope to secure a win.
