Rather predictable result when first ranked San Jose (7-2) won against 3rd placed Colonias (5-3) in Asuncion 89-80 on Thursday. San Jose dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Colonias' 28. It was an exceptional evening for the former international point guard Edgar Riveros (184-1991) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists. Argentinian forward Franco Benitez (199-1994) accounted for 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Five San Jose players scored in double figures. San Jose's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Dominican Nehemias Morillo (197-1992, college: S.Florida) came up with 26 points and 7 assists and the former international Sebastian Galarza (185-2001) added 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Colonias in the defeat. San Jose have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-2 record, which they share with Olimpia K. Loser Colonias keep the third position with three games lost. San Jose's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Asuncion to the arena Campo Alto.
