Regular Season Round 12: Caribbean Coast - Leones 79-98

There was a minor upset when their close opponent Caribbean Coast (7-4) was smashed by third ranked Leones (8-2) in Managua 98-79 on Sunday. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Caribbean Coast's 36. They outrebounded Caribbean Coast 47-28 including a 36-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The winners were led by American guard Kaleb Hunter (193-1998, college: UNCG) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and the other American import guard Augustus Stone (193-1997, college: St.Thomas, FL) supported him with 23 points. Five Leones players scored in double figures. Even 20 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists by swingman Jorge Gonzalez (198-1995) did not help to save the game for Caribbean Coast. Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Leon. Loser Caribbean Coast dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Leones will meet Indigenas (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caribbean Coast will have a break next round.
