Regular Season Round 7: Mineros - Abejas 84-95

Rather predictable result in Zacatecas where third ranked Abejas (10-4) beat 5th ranked Mineros (6-8) 95-84 on Saturday. It was a great evening for Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Venezuelan point guard David Cubillan (181-1987, college: Marquette) helped adding 22 points and 7 assists. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the losing side American power forward Franklin Hassell (203-1988, college: ODU) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Dion Wright (201-1993, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Abejas and five Mineros players scored in double figures. Mineros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Abejas. They maintain third place with 10-4 record having just two points less than leader Panteras. Loser Mineros keep the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Halc.Rojos and Plateros. Abejas will meet at home league's leader Fuerza Regia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mineros will play against Halcones UV Xalapa (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
