Regular Season Round 7: Mineros - Abejas 85-95

Rather expected game in Zacatecas where 5th ranked Mineros (6-8) were defeated by third ranked Abejas (10-4) 95-85 on Sunday. Abejas made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Abejas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American Markeith Cummings (198-1988, college: KSU) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws). Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American forward Dion Wright (201-1993, college: St.Bonaventure) responded with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Chris Perry (203-1994, college: LMU) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Mineros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Abejas. They maintain third place with 10-4 record having just two points less than leader Panteras. Loser Mineros keep the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Halc.Rojos and Plateros. Abejas will meet at home league's leader Fuerza Regia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mineros will play against Halcones UV Xalapa (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
