Regular Season Round 9: Mineros - Santos 81-78

There was a surprise result when sixth ranked Mineros (8-10) edged second-best Santos (10-8) in Zacatecas 81-78 on Monday. Mineros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Chris Perry (203-1994, college: LMU) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Walter Lemon Jr (191-1992, college: Bradley) accounted for 16 points and 8 assists. Four Mineros players scored in double figures. Barry Chinedu came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-1994) added 12 points and 10 assists respectively for Santos in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Mineros moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Halc.Rojos. Loser Santos dropped to the third position with eight games lost. Mineros will meet at home league's leader Fuerza Regia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santos will have a break next round.
