Regular Season Round 2: Hebraica - Penarol 73-90
Date: November 1, 2023
There was a surprise result when Penarol won against Hebraica in Montevideo 90-73 on Wednesday. Penarol looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Naturalized Italian guard Jayson Granger (191-1989) notched a double-double by scoring 13 points, 6 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and American-Puerto Rican guard Isaac Sosa (191-1990, college: Canisius, agency: Octagon Europe) supported him with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Penarol's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by American swingman Jordan Williams (196-1992, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Hebraica. Panamanian Ernesto Oglivie (199) added 15 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Penarol will meet Urupan on the road in the next round. Hebraica's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Defensor.
