The game had a very big importance for second-rankedSan Lorenzo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. San Lorenzo smashed 18th ranked Penarol in Almagro 88-65 . San Lorenzo outrebounded Penarol 41-27 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Lorenzo looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Sebastian Lugo (195-1998) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. The former international Kevin Hernandez (205-1991) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four San Lorenzo players scored in double figures. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) produced 17 points and his fellow American import guard Robert Whitfield (190-1997, college: UMKC) added 13 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Lorenzo (7-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Penarol lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the nineteenth place with six games lost.
