There was an upset when higher rankedPato (5-6) was smashed on the road by fourteenth ranked Sao Paulo (3-6) 89-67 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 49-23 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Sao Paulo outrebounded Pato 35-21 including a 24-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international point guard Ricardo Fischer (183-1991) notched 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and American guard Malcolm Miller (201-1991, college: Southern) supported him with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Even 16 points and 6 rebounds by Venezuelan swingman Jose Materan (196-1996) did not help to save the game for Pato . Center Gabriel Novaes (208-2001) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sao Paulo maintains fourteenth position with 3-6 record. Pato at the other side dropped to the tenth place with six games lost.
