There was no surprise when 15th rankedCaxias do Sul (7-14) lost to fourth ranked Vasco da Gama (15-7) in Rio de Janeiro 73-78 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Vasco da Gama made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Marquinhos Vieira (207-1984) who led the winners and scored 21 points. Guard Caue Freitas (192-1988) accounted for 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Vasco da Gama's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Diego Conceicao (199-1987) came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Kenny Dawkins (177-1987, college: Lamar) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively for Caxias do Sul in the defeat. Newly promoted Vasco da Gama maintains fourth place with 15-7 record. Loser Caxias do Sul keeps the fifteenth position with 14 games lost.
