Buenos Aires Set to Host Inaugural Youth BCL Americas- July 29, 2026

The first edition of FIBA Americas' new U18 club competition finally has a home. Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires will host the inaugural Youth Basketball Champions League Americas from September 9-12, 2026 filling in the venue detail on a four-team field that had already been confirmed earlier this summer: Paulistano out of Brazil, Uruguay's Defensor Sporting, the Academy of Central Florida representing the United States, and hosts Obras Sanitarias representing Argentina.
FIBA Americas unveiled the concept back in April, pitching it as a way to give young talent a taste of international competition earlier in their development, and this September's event is being treated explicitly as a pilot rather than a finished product. The stated goal is to raise the level of youth basketball infrastructure across the region while giving players a stepping stone toward higher levels of competition down the road. Nothing about the four-club field is expected to stay fixed for long: FIBA Americas has already signaled plans to expand the tournament starting in 2027, adding more countries and building out formal national qualification pathways so the competition grows in both reach and quality year over year. For now, the debut stays modest and contained four clubs, four days, one city but the framing from FIBA makes clear this is meant to be a foundation rather than a one-off. The Group Phase draw has yet to be finalized, with fixtures on FIBA's official schedule currently listed as TBD ahead of the September start. |
