Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Belize City: Defenders (#6) and Hurricanes (#4). Defenders (2-2) won against visiting Hurricanes (2-2) 76-72. 25 personal fouls committed by Hurricanes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Darwin Leslie (191-81) who added 17 points during the contest. At the losing side international guard Devin Daly (195-94, college: L.Superior) responded with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defenders moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Smart Belize H. Defenders is looking forward to face higher ranked Verdes (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Hurricanes will have a break next round.
Very significant was Dream Ballers' (#1, 4-1) victory against their biggest opponent Tigersharks (3-2) 79-66. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The winners were led by international guard Daniel Conorque (193-91, college: Pima CC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Edgar Mitchell supported him with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Even a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds by the former international center Kurt Burgess (196-82) did not help to save the game for Tigersharks. Tigersharks' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Dream Ballers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-1 record. Tigersharks at the other side keep the second place with two games lost. Dream Ballers will again play against league's second-placed Tigersharks in San Pedro in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tigersharks will have a break next round.
