Jones' double-double lands him Player of the Week award- April 25, 2023
He had a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds, while his team outclassed Panthers (#8, 1-10) with 45-point margin 105-60. Defenders maintains the 4th position in Belizean league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Defenders will need more victories to improve their 6-4 record. In the team's last game Jones had a remarkable 64.3% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Defenders, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Talladega College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Jones is in league's top in points (3rd best: 24.6ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 11.5rpg), assists (8th best: 3.2apg) and averages solid 1.7bpg and 59.5% FGP. Worth to mention Jones played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Second best performed player last round was Treandus Branch (G). He is a guard in his first season at Defenders. In the last game Branch recorded impressive 28 points and 9 rebounds. Of course together with Jones he helped Defenders with another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Panthers (#8, 1-10) 105-60. Defenders' 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team's 6-4 record is not bad at all. Branch is one of the most experienced players at Defenders and similarly like Nigel Jones has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Third place about best performers goes to guard Bryan Hudson (190-G) of league's second-best Running Rebels. Hudson scored 24 points and grabbed five rebounds. He was a key player of Running Rebels, leading his team to a 99-93 win against the lower-ranked Red Taigaz (#7, 3-7). Running Rebels needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 7 victories and 4 lost games. Hudson has a very solid season. In 9 games in Belize he scored 16.2ppg. Other top performing players last week: 4. Jayden Lopez (G) of Red Taigaz - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Mark Gordon (196-F/G) of Western Ballaz - 26 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists 6. James Stanback (198-F) of Running Rebels - 29 points and 5 rebounds 7. Richard Smith III (206-C/F-1992) of Western Ballaz - 10 points and 15 rebounds 8. Delvon Henderson (200-PF-1991) of Dream Ballers - 16 points and 3 rebounds 9. Kris Frazier (201-PG) of Hurricanes - 18 points and 17 rebounds 10. Brandon Flowers (196-F-1995) of Red Taigaz - 16 points and 16 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
