There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in BEBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Trojans in Belmopan on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Defenders 113-91. Defenders shot 32 for 45 from the free-throw line, while Trojans only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Trojans 47-36 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Defenders looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Defenders made 7 blocks. 31 personal fouls committed by Trojans helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American swingman Nigel Jones (201-1990, college: Talladega) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import point guard Lorenzo Dillard (189-1995, college: Dillard) chipped in 21 points and 8 assists. American Jeremiah Toney (196-1998, college: Southwest, agency: One Motive Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defenders will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Trojans will play on the road against Running Rebels in Belize City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Belize City: Hurricanes and Running Rebels. Hurricanes smashed visiting Running Rebels by 18 points 89-71. American swingman Victor Evans (193, college: Vanguard) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jamell Harris contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Center Matthew Young replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for Running Rebels. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hurricanes will play against Dream Ballers in Dangriga in the next round where they are favorite. Running Rebels will play at home against Trojans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of Running Rebels against Tiger Sharks on Sunday night. Visiting Running Rebels were defeated by Tiger Sharks in San Pedro 79-65. Richard Laku scored 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Brian White responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds.
