Nigel Jones claims Belizean BEBL Hoops Agents weekly honour

Experienced American Nigel Jones (201-G/F-1990) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's leader NSC Combined Schools Tridents and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 33-year old swingman had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, while his team crushed Trojans (#3, 1-1) with 22-point margin 113-91. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Tridents to jump to the first place in the Belizean BEBL. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Tridents won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Jones had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Tridents and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. Talladega College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Jones is in league's top in points (2nd best: 21.5ppg) and averages solid 2.0bpg,66.7% FGP and 41.7% from behind 3-point line. Worth to mention Jones played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Defenders' star - young American Richard Smith III (206-C/F-1992). Smith III impressed basketball fans with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Of course together with Jones he helped Belize City Defenders with another comfortable win outscoring Trojans (1-1) 113-91. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Smith III is one of the most experienced players at Defenders and similarly like Nigel Jones has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was Matthew Young (C) of Orange Walk Running Rebels (#5). Young scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (!!!). Despite Young's great performance the Running Rebels lost 71-89 to Hurricanes (#2, 2-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Running Rebels not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 2 games, recording just one victory. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Young could try to bring Running Rebels' a little bit higher in the standings. Young has individually a great season in Belize. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 14.5rpg (3rd best).
