The most exciting game of round 9 in the BEBL took place in Dangriga. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best Defenders (4-3) to sixth ranked Dream Ballers (2-4) 94-91 on Saturday evening. It was a good game for American forward Jonathan Guzman (201-1998, college: Antelope Valley) who led his team to a victory with 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Delvon Henderson (200-1991) contributed with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Dream Ballers' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American swingman Nigel Jones (201-1990, college: Talladega) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for Defenders. Dream Ballers moved-up to fifth place. Defenders at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Dream Ballers are looking forward to face league's leader Hurricanes in Belize City in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Defenders will have a break next round.
BEBL top team - Hurricanes (7-0) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat seventh ranked Western Ballaz (1-5) in Belize City 90-75. The former international guard Glency Lopez (180-1997, college: Midland CC) stepped up and scored 15 points and 8 assists for the winners and Amar Ross chipped in 10 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was American JD Weatherspoon (198-1992, college: Toledo) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Hurricanes have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Western Ballaz lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with five games lost. Hurricanes will play against Dream Ballers (#5) in Dangriga in the next round. Western Ballaz will play at home against the league's second-placed Tiger Sharks to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game between second ranked Tiger Sharks (5-3) and 6th ranked Trojans (2-7) in San Pedro on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Tiger Sharks outscored guests from Belmopan 81-50. Bobby Arthur-Williams nailed 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Jayden Lopez came up with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Trojans in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Tiger Sharks. They maintain second place with 5-3 record having just one point less than leader Hurricanes. Newly promoted Trojans keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Tiger Sharks will meet bottom-ranked Western Ballaz (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Trojans will play against Running Rebels and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
