BEBL Round 5 (Regular Season): Tiger Sharks beat Panthers in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game was played in San Pedro. Leader Tiger Sharks faced 4th placed Panthers. Host Tiger Sharks (6-0) defeated guests from Punta Gorda (2-3) 80-75. Tiger Sharks forced 25 Panthers turnovers and outrebounded them 50-38 including 18 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Tyrell Griffith who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds. point guard Francis Arana (180-1997) chipped in 15 points and 11 assists. American forward Marquis Cunningham (208-1995, college: UAPB) produced 22 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Undefeated Tiger Sharks have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Panthers at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Tiger Sharks are again looking forward to face Panthers (#5) in Punta Gorda in the next round. Panthers will have a break next round.
The game in was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Dream Ballers (4-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Suns (2-4). Dream Ballers managed to secure a 6-point victory 69-63. Forward Kevon Laurie orchestrated the victory by scoring 6 points and 12 rebounds. Frank Williams contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Jamaal Clifton (198-1998, college: Langston) answered with 21 points and 9 rebounds for Suns. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Dream Ballers. They maintain second place with 4-3 record having just one point less than leader Tiger Sharks. Suns lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the sixth position with four games lost. Dream Ballers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Suns will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Dream Ballers (#2) in Dangriga and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Belize City. Local Thunderbolts (3-3) beat 7th ranked City Kings (1-5) 87-71 on Friday night. Victor Evans stepped up and scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. John Kelly responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. Thunderbolts moved-up to third place. Kings at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with five games lost. Thunderbolts will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kings will play against Western Ballaz (#4) and hope to win that game.

The best stats of 5th round was 5 points and 14 rebounds by Brian White of Tiger Sharks.



Suns - Dream Ballers 63-69

The game in was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Dream Ballers (4-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Suns (2-4). Dream Ballers managed to secure a 6-point victory 69-63. Dream Ballers forced 26 Suns turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Forward Kevon Laurie orchestrated the victory by scoring 6 points and 12 rebounds. American Frank Williams (203, college: Kennedy-King) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Jamaal Clifton (198-1998, college: Langston) answered with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Ray Cruz (196) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Suns.
