Round 12 in BEBL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Dangriga where host Dream Ballers (5-5) crushed league's leader Running Rebels (7-3) 85-65 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Running Rebels. The best player for the winners was forward Arik Nicholas (196, college: ACU) who scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. American Deshawn Brackett (178-2001) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard William Jr Stanford (190-1998, college: Mobile, AL, agency: Fully Feared Sports) who recorded 15 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dream Ballers have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 5-5 record. Running Rebels at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Defenders. Just two games before the end of Regular Season and it may be the most important game of the season next round when Running Rebels faces Suns trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Dream Ballers will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Trojans in Belmopan.
Important game to mention about took place in Belize City. First ranked Defenders (8-2) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 3rd ranked Western Ballaz (6-4) 79-78 on Saturday evening. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for Nigel Jones (201-1990, college: Talladega) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Ajang Aguek contributed with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Victor Evans (193, college: Vanguard) replied with 30 points and 8 rebounds for Western Ballers. Western Ballaz's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defenders have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-2 record. Western Ballers lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Defenders will play against Tiger Sharks (#3) in San Pedro in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Western Ballers will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Tiger Sharks (6-3) against seventh ranked Trojans (2-9) on Friday night. Host Tiger Sharks were defeated by Trojans in a tough game in San Pedro 102-109. Worth to mention a great performance of Corey Nickerson who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 22 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Edward Hampton with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Trojans moved-up to sixth place. Defending champion Tiger Sharks keep the third position with three games lost. Trojans will meet at home higher ranked Dream Ballers (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tiger Sharks will play against the league's leader Defenders in Belize City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
