Libobasquet Round 9: Rubair edges Univ. Santa Cruz by two points

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Fifth-ranked Univ. Santa Cruz (1-4) made lots of trouble for second ranked Rubair (6-1) on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only two-point victory 73-71. However their fans expected easier game. Rubair outrebounded Univ. Santa Cruz 47-35 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Cuban Jordanis Jaca (195-83) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds. Venezuelan guard Reimer Machado (185-89) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. Rubair's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Richard Ford (205-85, college: So.Poly State) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Rubair have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Univ. Santa Cruz lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with four games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Oruro. Third ranked Carl A-Z (4-3) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 4th placed La Salle Tarija (3-5) 104-102 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of La Salle Tarija. It was a good game for American forward DeVaughn Jones (196, college: Midwestern St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds. John Merchant contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American forward Terrance Motley (201-91, college: SHSU, agency: Players Group) answered with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds for La Salle Tarija. Carl A-Z maintains third place with 4-3 record having just two points less than leader Pichincha. La Salle Tarija at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Carl A-Z will play against Calero (#5) in Potosi in the next round. La Salle Tarija will play at home against the league's leader Pichincha and hopes to get back on the winning track.



Carl A-Z - La Salle Tarija 104-102

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of La Salle Tarija. Carl A-Z forced 19 La Salle Tarija turnovers. La Salle Tarija was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward DeVaughn Jones (196, college: Midwestern St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds. His fellow American import guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American forward Terrance Motley (201-91, college: SHSU, agency: Players Group) answered with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds and the former international point guard Martin Ochoa (185-94) added 24 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for La Salle Tarija. Four Carl A-Z and five La Salle Tarija players scored in double figures. Carl A-Z maintains third place with 4-3 record having just two points less than leader Pichincha. La Salle Tarija at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Carl A-Z will play against Calero (#5) in Potosi in the next round.
