Libobasquet Round 4: La Salle lose to Leones in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Tarija. 4th ranked host La Salle (1-2) lost to top-ranked Leones (3-0) 82-73. Leones forced 19 La Salle turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 7 rebounds and the former international point guard Ronald Arze (175-1993) who added 22 points during the contest. Leones' coach Carlos Romano used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Argentinian Joaquin Gamazo (198-1991) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Leones have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 3-0 record behind leader San Simon. La Salle at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Saracho. Leones are looking forward to face UNITEP (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. La Salle will have a break next round.

Even 19 points by American forward Benjamin Merritt (202-1992, college: Urbana) did not help to save the game for Tenis. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Simon have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Tenis at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. San Simon will play against Atomico (#4) in the next round. Tenis will play against Pichincha (#3) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Atomico moved-up to third place, which they share with Pichincha. UNITEP lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with three games lost. Atomico will meet league's leader San Simon in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UNITEP will play against the league's second-placed Leones (#2) and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 4 Saracho was destroyed by Pichincha on the opponent's court 81-61.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points and 6 rebounds by Facundo Sanz of Saracho.



Tenis - San Simon 71-97

Libobasquet top team - San Simon (4-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Tenis (0-3) 97-71. They outrebounded Tenis 48-25 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Argentinian power forward Gianfranco Sinconi (204-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Kieston Standfield (201-1993, college: MGA) supported him with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Even 19 points by American forward Benjamin Merritt (202-1992, college: Urbana) did not help to save the game for Tenis. Martin Rios added 11 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Atomico (2-1) played at the court of 7th ranked UNITEP (1-3). Atomico smashed UNITEP 101-64 on Friday. Atomico dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to UNITEP's 24. They outrebounded UNITEP 40-21 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Atomico looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by UNITEP's players. Argentinian guard Erbel De Pietro (185-1988) fired 27 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Argentinian Rodrigo Acuna (198-1995) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Daniel Vega produced 22 points and center Diego Soto (-1986) added 6 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Pichincha - Saracho 81-61

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Pichincha and 5th ranked Saracho had identical 1-1 record. This time Pichincha used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from 81-61 on Saturday night. Pichincha dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Saracho's 24. Pichincha forced 20 Saracho turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international swingman Rene Calvo (193-1993) fired 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Ralfi Silva chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Four Pichincha players scored in double figures. Argentinian forward Facundo Sanz (197-1996, agency: BIG) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds and Argentinian power forward Nicolas Gimenez (203-1994) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Pichincha (2-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with Atomico. Loser Saracho keeps the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with La Salle. Pichincha will meet bottom-ranked Tenis (#9) in the next round where they are favorite.
