Libobasquet Round 15: Leones are upset by Atomico

The Regular Season in Libobasquet is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between second ranked Leones (10-3) and fourth ranked Atomico (8-5) was the most important one in the last round on Tuesday night. Leones were defeated by Atomico in a tough game at home 76-81. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Leones. Strangely Leones outrebounded Atomico 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Celmar Alanes (-1997) who scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Argentinian Rodrigo Acuna (198-1995) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Argentinian forward Norberto Stucky (198-1994) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Leones' coach Carlos Romano tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Atomico have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 8-5 record, which they share with Saracho. Leones at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Atomico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leones will play against San Simon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
First ranked Pichincha faced 3rd placed San Simon. Guests from Pichincha (12-1) defeated host San Simon (9-5) 95-77. It was a good game for Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-1989) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Diego Santana contributed with 13 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Pichincha's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Andres Trujillo (-1999) answered with 23 points and 6 rebounds for San Simon. Pichincha have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-1 record. San Simon at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Pichincha will play against Univ.Sucre (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. San Simon will play against the league's second-placed Leones (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Tenis (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 102-66 loss to seventh ranked Univ.Sucre (3-9) in on Wednesday evening. It was a great evening for Haylen Washington who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was Javier Balbuena with 24 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Univ.Sucre maintains seventh place with 3-9 record. Tenis lost their thirteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 13 games lost. Univ.Sucre will meet at home league's leader Pichincha in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tenis will play against La Salle (#6) in Tarija and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 15 La Salle were defeated by Saracho in a road game 82-78.



San Simon - Pichincha 77-95

First ranked Pichincha faced 3rd placed San Simon. Guests from Pichincha (12-1) defeated host San Simon (9-5) 95-77. They outrebounded San Simon 49-36 including a 25-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Pichincha players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a good game for Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-1989) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Diego Santana contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Pichincha's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Saracho - La Salle 82-78

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked La Salle's (6-6) road loss to fifth ranked Saracho (8-5) 78-82 on Wednesday. It was a great evening for Argentinian power forward Nicolas Gimenez (203-1994) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Argentinian forward Facundo Sanz (197-1996, agency: BIG) helped adding 15 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. The best for the losing side was Martin Ochoa with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and Argentinian Eduardo Gamboa (189-1984) scored 15 points. Four Saracho and five La Salle players scored in double figures. Saracho moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Atomico. La Salle lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth position with six games lost. Saracho will meet UNITEP (#8) in the next round. La Salle will play against Tenis and hope to secure a win.

They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Tenis' 36. They outrebounded Tenis 42-26 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Haylen Washington (196-1994, college: Co.Georgia) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Argentinian forward Lucas Gallardo (199-2001) helped adding 30 points (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Washington is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Univ.Sucre players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Javier Balbuena with 24 points and Facundo Moran produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds.
