Libobasquet Round 17: Pichincha defeat La Salle in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Sixth-ranked La Salle (7-7) gave a tough game to first ranked Pichincha (14-1) on Wednesday. Pichincha managed to secure only three-point victory 93-90. However their fans expected much easier game. Pichincha forced 20 La Salle turnovers. American forward Hunter Preston (201, college: Columbus St.) stepped up and scored 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-1989) chipped in 20 points and 4 steals. Pichincha's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Argentinian Eduardo Gamboa (189-1984) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!). Pichincha have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. La Salle at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Pichincha are looking forward to face UNITEP (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. La Salle will play against Univ.Sucre and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Tenis (0-15) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 15th consecutive match to eighth ranked UNITEP (3-12) 86-83. Argentinian Nicolas Rodriguez nailed 26 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and Eric Aparecido accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Javier Balbuena came up with 24 points and 9 rebounds for Tenis in the defeat. UNITEP maintains eighth place with 3-12 record. Tenis lost their fifteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 15 games lost. UNITEP will play against league's leader Pichincha at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tenis will play against Atomico (#4) and hope to get finally their first victory.

It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Saracho. The best player for the winners was Matias Martinez who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Facundo Sanz produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 21 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Atomico. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Saracho dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Atomico will meet at home bottom-ranked Tenis (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Saracho will play against the league's second-placed Leones (#2) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 17 Univ.Sucre lost to San Simon on the opponent's court 70-84.



San Simon - Univ.Sucre 84-70

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Univ.Sucre (3-11) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked San Simon (10-6) 84-70 on Tuesday. San Simon forced 19 Univ.Sucre turnovers. The best player for the winners was Argentinian power forward Gianfranco Sinconi (204-1994) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Andres Trujillo (-1999) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. San Simon's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Argentinian forward Lucas Gallardo (199-2001) produced 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and Argentinian center Sebastian Chaine (201-1986) added 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Four Univ.Sucre players scored in double figures. San Simon moved-up to third place. Loser Univ.Sucre keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. San Simon will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Univ.Sucre will play against La Salle (#6) in Tarija and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
