Libobasquet Round 1: Carl A-Z lose to La Paz

The Regular Season in Libobasquet just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Carl A-Z on the court of La Paz on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by La Paz 85-80. La Paz outrebounded Carl A-Z 50-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Carl A-Z helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Cuban center Dariel Maza (-1991) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and American forward Khalid Bowman (201-1999, college: Dominican, NY) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side Argentinian point guard Roberto Orresta (177-1991) responded with 42 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Very significant was Atletico Nacional's 90-83 road victory against Leones. The former international forward Cristhian Camargo (194-1992) nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Paolo Ramos accounted for 16 points and 5 assists. Atletico Nacional's coach Enrique Lancelotti allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Spencer Collins (196-1993, college: Wofford) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for Leones in the defeat.
A very close game took place in Cochabamba between San Simon and CAN Oruro. San Simon got a very close home victory over CAN Oruro. San Simon managed to escape with a 1-point win 81-80 on Saturday evening. Milos Petkovic fired a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Detrek Browning produced 31 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. CAN Oruro's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

In the last two games of round 1 winless Saracho lost to undefeated Pichincha on the opponent's court 68-94. Univ.Sucre managed to outperform Calero in a home game 78-70.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 21 points and 8 rebounds by Jesse Johnson of Univ.Sucre.



La Paz - Carl A-Z 85-80

Leones - Atletico Nacional 83-90

Very significant was Atletico Nacional's 90-83 road victory against Leones. Leones were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Cristhian Camargo (194-1992) nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international center Paolo Ramos (187-1987) accounted for 16 points and 5 assists. Four Atletico Nacional players scored in double figures. Atletico Nacional's coach Enrique Lancelotti allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Spencer Collins (196-1993, college: Wofford) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and forward Lazaro Chappottin (200-2000) added 21 points respectively for Leones in the defeat.

Pichincha used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Oruro 94-68 on Friday night. Pichincha forced 20 Saracho turnovers and outrebounded them 48-36 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international swingman Rene Calvo (193-1993) fired 27 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American swingman Jonathan Greenfield (190, college: Lehman) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Five Pichincha players scored in double figures. Cuban guard Daniel Simon (185-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 13 rebounds and Argentinian-Chilean Jorge Coronado (197-1989) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Univ.Sucre used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Potosi 78-70 on Saturday night. Strangely Calero outrebounded Univ.Sucre 45-31 including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Juan Calvo (-1999) fired 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Jesse Johnson (201, college: EWC) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. Johnson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Univ.Sucre players scored in double figures. Jhon Jones produced 20 points and Brazilian Felipe De Paula (202-1991) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Calero's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.
