Libobasquet Round 2: CAN Oruro hands first defeat to Atletico Nacional

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Libobasquet. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Atletico Nacional recorded a loss in Potosi on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by CAN Oruro 83-77. They made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. CAN Oruro forced 19 Atletico Nacional turnovers. Strangely Atletico Nacional outrebounded CAN Oruro 46-29 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard Detrek Browning (183, college: FMU, agency: BIG) who scored 30 points and 5 steals. The other American import swingman Deondre Wade (193, college: Seminole St.) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. American guard DMonta Harris (196-1997, college: Midwestern St.) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
Very important is a road loss of Pichincha against Calero on Friday night. Visiting Pichincha was defeated by Calero in a tough game in Potosi 70-77. Guard Agustin Carreon (-2000) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Celmar Alanes contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Rene Calvo (193-1993) replied with 24 points and 7 rebounds for Pichincha. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
Very important is a road loss of La Paz against Leones on Saturday night. Visiting La Paz was crushed by Leones in Potosi 96-58. Spencer Collins had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Irin Stark responded with 29 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

In the last two games of round 2 San Simon defeated Carl A-Z in Cochabamba 86-71. Saracho beat Univ.Sucre at home 87-78.

Carl A-Z - San Simon 71-86

There was no surprise in Oruro where Carl A-Z was defeated by San Simon 86-71 on Tuesday. San Simon outrebounded Carl A-Z 50-39 including a 40-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Simon made 7 blocks. Andres Trujillo (-1999) scored 35 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Serbian power forward Milos Petkovic (204-1991) chipped in 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. Four San Simon players scored in double figures. Argentinian point guard Roberto Orresta (177-1991) responded with 22 points and 5 assists and guard Mauricio Tola (184-1992) scored 8 points and 18 rebounds.

There was a surprise result in Oruro where Saracho defeated Univ.Sucre 87-78 on Thursday. Cuban guard Daniel Simon (185-1996) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Argentinian-Chilean Jorge Coronado (197-1989) chipped in 17 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Juan Calvo (-1999) responded with 25 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Haylen Washington (196-1994, college: Co.Georgia) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Five Saracho and four Univ.Sucre players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.
