The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Pichincha as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pichincha defeated 3rd ranked Univ.Sucre at home 88-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Univ.Sucre. Pichincha forced 20 Univ.Sucre turnovers. The former international swingman Rene Calvo (193-1993) fired 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Axel Veizaga (182-1996) chipped in 22 points. American forward Jesse Johnson (201-1995, college: EWC) produced 25 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pichincha (6-2) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Univ.Sucre at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Univ.Sucre will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Pichincha will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Saracho in Oruro.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Atletico Nacional (4-3) against eighth ranked Carl A-Z (3-4) on Tuesday night. Visiting Atletico Nacional was defeated by Carl A-Z in a tough game in Oruro 80-87. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian center Diego Romero (206-1982, college: FSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds. Roberto Orresta contributed with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American guard DMonta Harris (196-1997, college: Midwestern St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for Atletico Nacional. Carl A-Z moved-up to seventh place, which they share with San Simon. Atletico Nacional at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Carl A-Z will play against La Paz (#9) at home in the next round. Atletico Nacional will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Saracho (4-3) against sixth ranked Calero (4-3) on Thursday night. Visiting Saracho was defeated by Calero in a tough game in Potosi 58-65. Felipe De Paula had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Daniel Simon responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Calero have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Saracho. Calero will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Saracho will play against the league's leader Pichincha and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
